‘Metaverse Seoul’, where you can use Seoul’s administrative services using your own ‘avatar’ in a 3D virtual reality space without being restricted by time, place, language, or age, is now in operation. You can also meet the virtual Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and receive various administrative services.
On the 16th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon held a press conference in the multipurpose hall on the 8th floor of Seoul City Hall and announced that the first phase of the public metaverse platform ‘Metaverse Seoul’, the first of its kind in a city in the world, has been completed and administrative services such as economy, education, taxation, administration, and communication will begin at 1:00 PM that day.
The core values of ‘Metaverse Seoul’ were decided to be freedom, companionship, and connection, and to realize this, we plan to support various public services by implementing creative and communication spaces, non-discriminatory hyper-realistic spaces, and reality-fusion spaces.
In addition to establishing the 'Metaverse Seoul Promotion Basic Plan (2022-2026)' in 2021, Seoul City conducted a closed beta test (CBT) with mentoring consultation users and experts of the online education platform 'Seoul Run' from August of last year.
Seoul City plans to implement the 'Metaverse Seoul' in all areas of the city administration in three stages: expansion by 2024 and settlement by 2026 after introducing the first stage.
Specifically, the Metaverse Market Office will allow the exchange of opinions with the mayor and the city administration, and the promotion and exchange of companies through the Fintech Lab and the Corporate Support Center. In addition to consulting on management, startups, law, and personnel, you can also experience Seoul's top 10 tourist attractions such as the Blue House, Lotte Tower, and N Tower. Youth mentoring virtual consultation room, youth consultation, 120 civil complaint chat consultation, civil complaint document issuance, local tax service, and a conference room that can accommodate 100 people were also added.
As the second phase of the ‘Metaverse Seoul’ project, Seoul plans to expand municipal services by sector, such as the Citizen Safety Experience Center, real estate contracts, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) metaverse, foreigner support projects, and youth policy content discovery and construction, and integrate metaverse services individually constructed by autonomous districts into the ‘Metaverse Seoul Platform.’
Mayor Oh said, “As the world’s first public metaverse platform app, Seoul will play the role of a first mover (pioneer) so that ‘Metaverse Seoul’ can establish itself as a new concept of public service standard model in virtual space.”
Meanwhile, ‘Metaverse Seoul’ shared its construction model by participating in interviews and conferences with 20 overseas organizations, including Harvard, MIT, McKinsey & Company, and the City of Vancouver, and the American weekly current affairs magazine TIME selected ‘Metaverse Seoul’ as ‘the Best Inventions of 2022’ in the metaverse public sector.
