‘Metaverse Seoul’ service launched… World’s first city

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's avatar runs around Seoul City Hall, which is implemented as a metaverse.
He conducts meetings with officials through the avatar, and freely talks with foreigners who speak English using a translation system.
Starting at 1 p.m. today (the 16th), Seoul City will provide the first phase of the 'Metaverse Seoul' service, which provides various services such as administration and entertainment.
It is the first city in the world to build a metaverse platform and start a service in the public sector.
'Metaverse' is a compound word of the fictional and real world, and 'Metaverse Seoul' is a public metaverse platform created by Seoul City.
■Providing non-face-to-face services in five areas including administration and education
'Metaverse Seoul' first phase service covers five areas: economy, education, taxation, administration, and communication, and Seoul City plans to realize the core values of freedom, companionship, and connection through the five services.
Users can read e-books published by Seoul City and obtain information on policies being promoted by Seoul City through promotional videos on the exterior walls of Seoul Library.
The mayor's office is recreated based on an actual space, and you can leave your opinions on city administration and receive responses through the suggestion box.
In 'Metaverse Seoul', you can receive various administrative documents such as 120 (Dasan Call Foundation) civil complaint chat consultation and resident registration transcripts.
The documents that can be issued through 'Metaverse Seoul' are resident registration transcripts, resident registration transcripts, health insurance premium payment confirmation, health insurance eligibility confirmation, vaccination certificate, immigration certificate, and medical certificate.
However, for information security, Seoul City has made it possible to check documents through the 'Seoul Wallet App' based on blockchain technology.
In 'Tax Square', you can receive tax-related consultations and calculate the automobile tax, property tax, and acquisition tax to be paid in advance. From 1:1 consultation rooms to conference rooms that can accommodate 100 people, anyone who needs it can share chat, voice, video, and data.
■Avatar-free youth mentoring service
The youth mentoring service has also been implemented in the metaverse. The youth mentoring service allows youth who previously felt burdened by face-to-face counseling to receive psychological counseling with a stable emotional state by using avatars for mentoring.
The target group is mentors and mentees who participate in the 'Seoul Run Mentoring Service', and detailed information can be found on the Seoul Run website (slearn.seoul.go.kr).

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to provide a 'Fintech Lab', a promotional booth for 'Fintech' companies that provide financial services using technology, and a 'Corporate Support Center' that provides specialized counseling by field to companies that are having difficulties in operating their businesses.
An English translation function based on the Google Translate system is also provided for communication with foreigners. The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that when the second phase of the service is provided, translation functions will be expanded to include not only English but also Chinese and Japanese.
■'Metaverse Seoul' created together by citizens
'Metaverse Seoul' can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. When using it for the first time, you must go through identity verification to prevent personal information infringement, etc.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has established technical safety measures such as prohibiting contact between avatars, introducing a profanity filter, and a function to report unhealthy behavior in order to prevent unhealthy behavior.
From today until the 12th of next month, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold the 'Find a Flaw in Metaverse Seoul' event to activate the platform.
Citizens who find errors can submit them through the 'Metaverse Seoul' Instagram direct message or the bug report function of the 'Metaverse Seoul app'. Citizens will be given gifts such as gift cards.
When asked whether the digitally vulnerable class will be able to use 'Metaverse Seoul', Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon answered that this was the biggest problem, saying, "An 'EASY mode' will be prepared for the second phase of service," and "They say that Metaverse will become an important means of communication in the future, so we will develop an easier method."
