‘XR-based Complex Terrorism Response Education and Training Center Construction’ Project

This year, medium-sized training center indoor facility construction, verification, and virtual training test

Recently, as the police security system needs to be strengthened due to the surge in malicious crimes, a virtual platform is being developed to improve the police officers’ response capabilities, which is expected to be a groundbreaking help in improving the police officers’ on-site response capabilities and preventing safety accidents.

Naviworks, a virtual training platform specialist, announced on the 26th that the introduction of police virtual training is becoming more visible as the ‘Establishment of a Test Bed for Complex Terrorism Response Education and Training Based on Extended Reality (XR)’ project under the leadership of the National Police Agency is being developed in stages.

This project is a 5-year project and is currently in its 4th year of development.

According to Naviworks, as soon as the construction of the indoor facilities of the police medium-sized training center is completed in the first half of this year, police virtual training will be tested after going through verification work at the National Police Agency.

Police virtual training is being developed with a total of 12 scenarios, and scenarios such as traffic accidents, physical force, drunken disorder, and stress response have already been completed.

Virtual training is carried out in the following stages: ‘automatic generation of AI (artificial intelligence) scenarios’, ‘conducting individual and team training with generated scenarios’, ‘training controller’ (watching the progress in the controller environment via PC), and ‘providing AI post-evaluation and suggesting directions for training improvement’. The National Police Agency’s XR Training Center will build six training systems.

The reason for building this XR Training Center is that it is difficult to provide various practical training due to the limitations of space and time in existing police training, and considering that training is limited due to current work, it can provide mobile, on-site customized training.

Naviworks has been developing the XR Training Center by considering the following key factors: ‘designing a system that can be operated efficiently within the training center’, ‘automating the operating software within the training center’, ‘training system that is not dependent on systems and devices’, ‘domestication of core source technologies’, and ‘integration and linkage of previous National Police Agency R&D projects’.

In response, the National Police Agency gave the XR Training Center a positive evaluation and presented Naviworks with a letter of appreciation for its efforts to prepare for leading future security, including scientific security.

A Naviworks official said, “Since the police virtual training is based on VTB-X (Virtual Training Block), the only virtual training platform in Korea developed by the company, it can implement virtual augmented reality, metaverse training, and virtual reality tactical training simulators,” adding, “Since it is possible to provide customized training on-site and can be done repeatedly, it will be of great help in improving the on-site response of police officers.”
